Facebook added a solution to publish anything other than “like”: The “Actions”.

The principle is simple. A user performs an action on an object on your website.
Generally the object is an article, and the action is reading.
But you can create your own action, and your own objects through your application on facebook.
Using the parameters openGraph you can define your own objects related to your posts.
With the actions of facebook, your website becomes fully connected to the largest social network in the world.

Features
  • This extension is able to automatically publish articles that your visitors are reading in real time on Facebook.
By default, OpenGraph Shares publishes with the action “news.reads” and object “article”. But you can redefine them in the plugin parameters.
You can also use the plugin to create new actions between the user and your site.
  • A page displays the user activity on your site because Facebook wants users to be able to delete the shares issued.
  • The social bar at the bottom of each article indicates the status of the publication, and the current reading. The social reading can be turn off or deleted at any time by users
  • Shortcodes & Widgets ready
Create action buttons, with various events, with shortcodes or widgets.
  • Developers can easily create custom callbacks
FAQ

Can this plugin work as standalone version ?

No, This plugin is only compatible with Facebook AWD

How it works ?

The plugin will help you to create html elements that hold data to create facebook actions. (Actions buttons, Actions publish via events trackers….)

By default, the plugin have a built in function to auto publish on logged in users’s timeline each time they see a post. 11 sec after…

Actions and object must be created before on the Facebook developers platform in your application settings

Those html elements are attached to events. When a related event is triggered, the plugin will call the action.
You can use the special event AWD_facebook_tracker to call the action on page load (+11s), or all other event present in jquery.
You can create you own events too, and trigger them manually. Those elements are only here to add a reference of the action and store data  needed to publish an action.

Each time that an action was published on facebook user timeline, the plugin will store it in the database.
A page display the current user’s activities, and allow him to manage them.

A social bar is displaying at the bottom of each post. (if activated) and allow the current user to turn on/off the social publishing on your site.

How to create actions and objects ?

Actions and objects are created on the Facebook Application Side.
Go to the Facebook Developer platform to create or manage your app and create actions and objects.

Once submitted and approved, you will receive a notification from facebook like this one

How to submit actions to facebook approval ?

Each time you create an action you must submit it to facebook for approval.
Facebook want to know if the usage of your action is correct and if your action respect the rules.

When you submit it to facebook (in the app settings) facebook will ask you how actions works on your site and what is the process.
To help you to get your action approved, you can add the following instructions:

To publish action on my website Users must first be logged in with facebook using the login button at (Bottom left, top left, top right, bottom right ….) on this page URL OF A TESTABLE PAGE.
After users were logged in, they just have to go on a page or post and stay on it at least 11 seconds to get the post published on the timeline.
Users can manage (delete or view) the activity from the “social bar” at the bottom of the post, and they can see the full activity list by clicking on the link in the social bar.
They can turn on/off the social publishing inside the social bar by clicking on the black button.

How to reference object in my website?

OpenGraph form is here for that. Go to the openGraph section in the Facebook AWD menu and configure it.
The field “type” must fit with the object you suppose to use.
